Uncle Toms Point

Have you ever seen something that was so beautiful you were left momentarily speechless?

Our Tetons/Yellowstone trip provided more than one moment like that.
Seeing the Tetons for the first time was my #1 speechless moment but the Lower Yellowstone Falls was a close second.

Seeing pictures doesn't come close to what it was like in real life ~ The smell of the forest floor, the sound of rushing water, the warm tones in the rock with vivid evergreens in stark contrast. So much to take in.....

All I can say is God is an incredible Creator and here are some pictures that will give you a mere glimpse.

Heading towards Uncle Toms Point trail

At this point DJ and I looked at each other and said "We can do this!" To many people had said this was a must see so I really needed to satisfy my curiosity. "What was so fascinating at the bottom?"

Looking down at the beginning of the trail ~ At this point you don't really get how far down you are going to climb.

You can see the stairs in the trees just to the left.
It's starting to look a bit steep :)

About halfway down
328 of these steps that you can see through

Every single step we took was SO worth it ~ This is the bottom of the lower falls. It pours into a 24 mile canyon commonly referred to as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

There are still more steps to take though ~ Isn't the rock beautiful?

Looking back up at the stairs we had just climbed down.

The rock looks like a piece of well worn leather.

Lower Yellowstone Falls ~ 308 feet tall

Top of Lower Yellowstone Falls ~ The fall colors and the green of the water made for an interesting and pretty picture.

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone ~ Up to 1,000 feet deep.

Zoomed in a bit

Almost back up to the parking lot.

This is one of my favorite places I've ever seen!

In an 1869 expedition Charles W. Cook expressed in his journal what it was like to see the Lower Yellowstone Falls / Grand Canyon of Yellowstone for the first time:

"......I sat there in amazement, while my companions came up, and after that, it seemed to me that it was five minutes before anyone spoke."

That pretty much says it all.
