A Scenic Float Trip Down The Snake River

The second day of our vacation we were signed up for a scenic float trip out of Jackson down the Snake River. We went with a company called Jackson Hole Whitewater. They were fantastic.

We had debated whether to go on a float trip or not because of the smoke. We wondered if we would see things good enough to make it worth the money. We are so glad we went! There was only one other couple that went so there was plenty of room in the raft.
The staff here was so friendly ~ I would definitely recommend them to anyone :)

The beginning of our 3 hour trip

Looking over DJ's shoulder

You can see how smoky it was ~ We sure didn't see the Tetons

Our guide said this was one of the largest eagles he has seen ~ I wish I could have had more time to photograph him but there was just time for a quick shot

It was breathtaking to watch him in flight! What a treat :)

The fall colors were so pretty

We detoured into an inlet to see a large beaver dam

We heard a moose walking in a grove of trees so we swung into an inlet on the opposite side of the river.
We  got out and walked along the river as quietly as possible to see if we could spot the moose but.....no, we didn't.
Our guide was the best ~ he had a great sense of adventure which fits us just perfectly!

Coming back to the raft we noticed all the animal footprints in the water ~ it's neat to think of all the creatures, big and small, that cross that river each day.

Sack lunches were provided ~ Turkey sandwich, chips, granola bar and a bottle of water

I knew this picture wouldn't turn out to great because of the smoke but you can see a helicopter in the middle of the picture with a red bucket hanging down. It was taking water out of a quarry to dump on a local wildfire.

It was such a peaceful, beautiful trip even with the smoky haze.

Nearing the end of our float trip.

This float trip was one of our favorite parts of this vacation ~ next time I think I'm ready to try some mild whitewater rafting :)

Tomorrow I'll share pictures from an excellent bakery that reminded us a bit of Sicily~
