My 6,000 Mile Trip - Part 8

Bricktown is a fun and interesting area of Oklahoma City to visit.
It's full of shops, places to dine, etc. There is also a riverwalk, which adds to the atmosphere.
Bricktown used to be a warehouse district. Most of the brick buildings were built in the late 1890's and early 1900's. The area began to decline due to the Great Depression and changes to the city after WWII. Bricktown was created in the 1990's to bring life and opportunities to OKC.

We took a tour in the Water Taxi ~ It's a great way to see what's in the area.

"A gunshot fired. A cannon roared. Horses startled and wagons sprang to life. On April 22, 1889, settlers flooded into the region of central Oklahoma known as the Unassigned Lands. President Benjamin Harrison signed a proclamation on March 23, 1889, opening the land and people came from across the country to claim it. According to the Homestead Act of 1862, if a settler could stay on the land he claimed for five years and improve it, it would be his free and clear. Some people were very excited about the 1889 Land Run and were ready to try to make a new life in Oklahoma Territory." -Oklahoma Historical Society  website

We ate lunch at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill.

The food was good and there were lots of interesting things to look at!

We also visited an old fashioned candy store. They had a little bit of everything in there!
