My 6,000 Mile Road Trip - Part 7

After Ben's graduation in Florida, DJ and the girls had to fly back home.
The rest of us headed back in the car with Ben following on his motorcycle.
We met DJ's brother Dale and his wife Maggie in Oklahoma City and spent 2 days there. It's not a city that was on my bucket list but I'm so glad we spent time there!

The Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum ~ what an incredible place to visit. While it is beautifully done, it is also very sobering.

Jesus Wept statue at St. Joseph Old Cathedral across the street from where the bombing happened.

St. Joseph Old Cathedral had extensive damage due to the bombing and was closed for an extended time while repairs were made.

Memorial Wall

So many of these items just tug at your heart.

This one about dissolved me into tears.

A chair in memory of each person lost that day, 19 smaller chairs represent the children.
Reflection Pond ~ where the Murrah Building once stood.
Field of Chairs
An eery amount of birds flying around!
Pretty time of night with a reverent stillness.
Colorful expressions of support, hope and love.
They did an incredible job inside the museum. You get a sense of what the aftermath was like.
Emotional and sobering.
As a mother (& human being) this sweet little shoe grabbed at my heart.
Firefighters are truly heroes.
View of the Field of Chairs from inside the museum.
The big tree in the middle of the picture is the Survivor Tree. It's a 90 + yr. old American Elm Tree. After the bombing it became a symbol of strength and hope. Great lengths were taken to preserve it and make sure it would last for years to come.

Our country has seen some terrible and wearying times. I'm gratetful that we can find rest and hope in the arms of the God who created us and loves us more than we can ever know.
In the midst of chaos, He never changes.
